Our Mill Spun in Maine Alpaca Yarns
All of our yarns are spun in Maine at a local mill and grown on our farm. The weight is 2 ply DK unless noted on the specific alpaca. Mill spun is a more consistent process therefore creating a product that is pleasantly balanced. These yarns are soft and luscious! Price is based on yardage and micron, which is the level of softness from the particular alpaca's fiber. A typical skein is in increments of 82 yards. Use needle sizes 4-9. We create our our skeins with varying degrees of yardage, wash them and prepare for your handcraft project! Contact us for more information and how we can personalize your alpaca yarn from our farm. Know where your yarns come from!
2021 Yarns are in the shop and being skein and washed. Please don’t hesitate to call and inquire about our yarns if you don’t see what you are looking for on our website. Our 2022 fiber is not yet processed into yarn! Stay tuned...
Our Own Cape Newagen Alpaca Farm Stuffies
For all those farm visitors who have asked....did you make those?
Now we can say YES!!
These adorable alpaca stuffies are hand sewn by me and my family and created for you!
I have used recycled fabrics (when not it will be noted); all the stuffing comes from our farm alpacas and the leftover fibers and yarns that are the end product of our carding process, bumps (rug yarn) and spinning projects. Fibers like such are still so soft but too small to be part of our yummy yarns!
The stuffies' tails are from our alpacas, as a matter of fact, we name them based on their tails! The scarves are hand knit from our alpacas' yarn too. Each one is designed and crafted individually.
Have a favorite shirt or fabric that you would like us to re-use and create into a very special alpaca stuffie for you or as a special gift for someone? Contact us for more details. Basically send us your material and we will do the rest.
If you want a specific alpaca from our herd for the tail - please contact us as well. Custom orders are a two week turnaround for each Cape Newagen Alpaca Farm Stuffie. Please note that the inventory is added to allow you to choose your specific tail. All stuffies are made to order.
We are really excited to be offering these little stuffies and so happy to recycle in the process and share our alpaca love! Please NOTE: the stuffies pictured are all with their new owners, we create one similar for you.
Maine Heathered Grey Bulky Yarn
Another Maine Yarn! This bulky yarn was blended from mother and son alpacas on our farm, dark rose grey, Rambling Rose and her light fawn son, Jackpot with two Jacob sheep, Pooh and Piggy, from Black Goat Rising Farm.
Jacob sheep are tricolored brown, black and white. When blended with our Rambling Rose and Jackpot, both long stapled, it created a beautiful 60/40 alpaca/sheep variegated Grey blend. You’ll find bits of each color popping up randomly just to remind you of each animal!
Miss America's Knitted Slouch Hat with Crocheted Brim
I love to knit, crochet and weave using our yarns!
I understand and appreciate all the different textures each yarn presents because I watch and feel each alpaca’s fiber growing throughout the year. After shearing, I have my hands on all our fiber that we use use to create our yarn to ensure quality and consistency. This is the best part of my job! Mostly we ask our local mill to create a DK yarn but some of the alpaca blends such as our Maine Heathered Grey from local Jacob sheep, Pooh and Piggy, and Rambling Rose with her son Jackpot, is a bulky yarn. Creating a knitted or crocheted item from our herd or blends that I’ve designed brings such joy!
Sometimes I create an item with a customer in mind as requests occur throughout the year. Other times I decide to knit an item to place in our studio for sale. However, knitting for the shop means you have to be here visiting our farm to purchase. I’ve decided to post a few of my knitted items online. By doing this we can offer those of you from afar to own a unique, one of a kind treasure from our small, family run alpaca farm.
Items will be posted individually with pictures and description in the name as best I can to help you understand the yarn, which alpaca grew it and the completed item. If you have questions please email me and I will respond to your inquiries.
